Hello everyone,
It’s my pleasure to introduce my colleague and friend Dr. Jessica Myszak who will be a featured panelist at the PDA Institute.
Dr. Myszak specializes in neurodiversity-affirming autism assessment for both children and adults. She founded the Help and Healing Center, a private psychology practice which offers telehealth evaluations in every state in the US. She has developed a niche in less-typical presentations of autism, including PDA, autism in women, and high-masking adults. She also provides educational content on social media about these topics.
I have had the pleasure of working alongside her as a partner in supporting PDA families and as an active original collaborative member.
During this time, she has taught me a great deal about how to effectively communicate with school teams who often respond to the extensive data sets generated through a wide variety of screening tools.
She uses data to give her clinical impressions weight and validity which ultimately offers a strong counterbalance to the skepticism that PDA autistic children and adults don’t meet diagnostic criteria.
She not just uses data effectively but writes and speaks articulately to the whole person offering insight and ideas for how to build accommodations through changing environments and creating relationship. The clarity of her voice offers rationale a school team can digest and work with.
I have watched school teams listen to her voice, her views and clarity of thinking. Most PDA parents feel they must become an expert to help their child, and this is a lot to carry alone. Every PDA family deserves someone who can articulate so clearly who their child is.
I find it very reassuring and comforting to know that she can teach how she works and what she thinks about day to day.
I’m pleased to welcome Dr. Myszak as a featured panel member!
